Tonight on Not the Footy Show – 01 July 2009
A strong South African flavour to the show tonight when we talk rugby and football. But as usual, there is so much more on Not the Footy Show. Do tune in on 990am later tonight from 6pm – 8pm.

Rugby union
Rugby fans will no doubt have watched the Springboks nail-biting victory over the British and Irish Lions, to avenge the 1997 series loss. Former Springbok world cup winner Kobus Wiese joins us to review the second test and preview this weekend’s final test.
Confederations Cup
Ashley Morrison has returned from the Confederations Cup in South Africa. Tonight he will tell us what football fans attending next year’s World Cup can expect from the host country.
Football
Host nation South Africa, aka Bafana Bafana, surprised many at the Confederations Cup. Hampered by a lack of quality competitive fixtures leading into next year’s World Cup we ask assistant coach Pitso Mosimane if they can replicate this performance.
Netball
The West Coast Fever play their last home game this Monday after a much improved season. Once again one of the team will join us.
Lacrosse
Travis Roost, assistant coach to the Australian women’s lacrosse team updates us on their performance at the world championships in Prague.
Cricket
Is it a world record or not? On this day, Kevan James of Hampshire took four wickets in four balls and then followed up with a century.
Olympic Feature
We continue our look at the seven sports that have nominated for Olympic inclusion. Tonight one more sport will have its chance to state its case. So listen in and see if you feel it deserves to be included. Be sure to cast your vote on our poll.
Golf
CEO of the Australian PGA Max Garske will tell us why golf should be included in the Olympic programme.
Tonight on Not the Footy Show – 17 June 2009
The Football Federation of Australia commissioned an upbeat advert as part of their bid for the 2018 World Cup to be held here in Australia. It certainly demonstrates the flair and festivity of football. Do you think Australia can host the World Game? Post your comment.
Over the next three weeks starting as of tonight, Not the Footy Show will be bringing you an Olympic Feature on the seven sports vying for inclusion in the 2012 Games. Tune in tonight to catch the first part of this feature and vote for the sport you think should be included.
Confederations Cup 2009Ashley Morrison is in Johannesburg for the Confederations Cup. We will cross to him in the first hour to see how things are shaping up in South Africa.
Cricket
Can you remember where you were on this day in 1999 when South Africa played Australia in that famous Cricket World Cup semi final? Damian Fleming can, as he bowled the last over to Lance Klusener. He joins us tonight.
Diving
WAIS only recently introduced diving to its programmes. Tonight we catch up with coach Jack Taylor to hear how the programme is bedding down.
Netball
The West Coast Fever played against the Thunderbirds on Sunday and lost 58-39. We speak to Andrea Gilmore about how they hope to get their bounce back for their next match against the Swifts.
Olympic Feature
Seven sports have nominated for Olympic inclusion, and over the next three weeks we will be giving each sport the chance to tell you the listener why their sport should be included.
Rugby Sevens
First up we talk to former Nedlands player and now Captain of the World Champion Wallaroos, Cheryl Soon. She is part of the Rugby 7’s bid team presenting to the IOC in Lausanne.
Karate
Taekwondo and Judo are there, but Karate is not. Former national coach and Vice Preseident of the Australian Karate Federation of WA, Branco Bratich will state the case for Karate.

Forty three years after England won the World Cup the other members of the squad have finally been awarded their medals – only from 1974 on did all squad members receive medals – one of those players and an ambassador for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Terry Paine joins us in an extended interview.
Squash
When he came to Perth to Open the Squash factory in Wangara, world number 4 David Palmer invited the best young talent in WA to participate in the Italian Squash Open. Tonight we catch up with Glynn Bunting who will be escorting this your talent to Italy.
Netball
Joh Curran from the West Coast Fever will be joining us to talk about how they kept their finals hopes alive on Monday night.
Local football
Gary Marrochi was the coach of the former Australian and State players who took part in the Masters World Cup in Thailand, where they made the final once again, but this game was a little different, tune in to hear why.
Golf
Darryl Evans is a member of the Westerners Blind Golf Club and he will be joining us to talk about the club and his win in the B3 category at the Australian Stableford Championships in South Australia.
Canoeing
Ramon Andersson WAIS Canoeing coach will join us to let us know how his charges performed at the World Cup in Hungary at the weekend.
Tonight on Not the Footy Show – 06 May 2009
Tonight “Not The Footy Show” has their third Knight of the realm as a guest. The first man to run a sub four minute mile, Sir Roger Bannister, the man favoured to light the flame at the London games in 2012.
As well as Sir Roger we will have plenty to talk about and you can still win a copy of the Firepower book, as we talk to it’s author Gerard Ryle.

As mentioned above Sir Roger Bannister will top the show looking back on the first sub four minute mile ever run on this day in 1954.
The West Coast Fever were superb on Monday night to record their third win on the trot against the reigning champions the New South Swifts. Andrea Gilmore was the heroine – although in truth they all were – but she will join us to talk about how she turned the game.
Neil Robertson made the semi finals of the World snooker championships and he joins us once again to talk about his outstanding achievement.
The National BMX championships took place last week at Brigadoon and Sharon Payne will bring us up to date on all the results, and there were a few upsets.
Keiran Gorman the remarkable aerobics champion from Perth won again last week in Japan, and has had to fly straight to Europe to compete, despite not having a sponsor! His coach Trudi Nurse joins us to talk about Keiran’s future which could be blighted by a lack of funding.
Matthew Boyce is following a family tradition with his selection in the national under 21 hockey squad. We catch up with him to hear how it felt to be selected and is this the start of bigger and better things.

Firstly, a big thank you to the Squash Factory for hosting us last week and what a great venue this is for squash! Our apologies that we had a few technical issues back in the studio, but we hope that you enjoyed the show.
This week we are back in the studio and there will be plenty of sport to get through, as we look back as well as forward, with our special guests.
On the show tonight we will be featuring:
This year will witness the Great City Games in Newcastle England, and Ashes-style Athletics challenge and we will talk to Brendan Foster the triple Olympian who is the brains behind the concept and who wants to bring it down under. We also look back on his career and discuss doping in athletics.
The West Coast Fever have had two wins on the trot and are now looking a much more formidable outfit than last season. We will catch up with Co-Captain Stacey Rosman and hear how they have turned things around.
Emily Bunting became the first Western Australian junior to win multiple National Junior Series Squash events at the recent tournament in Rockhampton, Queensland. Tonight we will catch up with one of WA’s rising stars of Squash.
The National BMX championships get under way in Perth this week at Brigadoon and Sharon Payne will update us on the riders to look out for and tell us why this is such a key event.
The Womensport awards dinner is due to be held in a week’s time, so we catch up with Gemma Richman, acting Executive Officer of Womensport, to find out more about the awards and what they are doing for women’s sport.
The Former Australian and State football team will be talking on the former Malaysian national team next week here in Perth and former Socceroo and coach Gary Marocchi will join us to tell us who he plans to pick and how this is preparation for next month’s world cup.

Tonight on Not the Footy Show – 22 April 09
Tonight’s show will be coming to you live from the official opening of Perth’s first new Squash centre in 20 years, The Squash Factory in Wangara.
It may therefore come as no surprise that a with the array of talent on show at the opening, we will be featuring the racquet sport heavily throughout the show.
Former double winning World Open champion, and current reigning Australian and British Open Champion David Palmer will join us prior to taking the court for his exhibition match.
Kelly Jarrett the reigning world triathlon champion in her age group and the highest ranked amateur in Australia will join us and tell us how her preparations are going for the Hawaiian Ironman.
Just as she promised would happen on last week’s show the West Coast Fever won their first home game, in the ANZ Championship so Joh Curran will join us why it all went right and how they plan to build on this victory.
Zac Alexander is an up and coming star of Australian Squash and he will join us to tell us how his first year on the overseas circuit went and how he feels to be playing David Palmer tonight.
The Emirates Western Force achieved the triple crown at the weekend when they beat the Waratahs, which in turn meant they had beaten all of the Australian Super Rugby teams. We will catch up with one of the team to discuss this win and this weekend’s clash with the Lions at Subiaco.

If you read the local newspapers you would think it was all doom and gloom in Western Australian sport, but believe it or not its not! Our athletes continue to do amazing things and as is our goal we will try and bring the positive stories to you tonight.
Tonight on Not the Footy Show – 08 April 09
Another week passes and another show for sports fans is ready to go air.
Tonight we will talk SAQ with Alan Pearson. Not sure what SAQ is? Well tune in and find out, all we will say is the England Rugby team used it when they won the World Cup, Bayern Munich use it as do the England Special Olympics team. If you are serious about your sport maybe you should.
Last week we could not wake Floorball’s Peter Harris from his jet-lagged sleep, so to talk about the Asia Pacific Championships we will catch up with Anthony Boteler.
Now the Victorians lay claim to the sport that we don’t mention, and to be honest who cares? But they are the only place that the sport of Trugo is played. This sport was dealt a blow last week, and so we will catch up with President of the Victorian Trugo Association Andrew MacMillan.
The Emirates Western Force kept their slim finals hopes alive with a good win over the Reds and we will be talking to one of their number leading up to this weekend’s clash with the Hurricanes.
We will feature motorcycling this week for the first time and will talk to Mandy Beales a woman excelling in what has tended to be a man’s world.
Susan Fuhrmann from the West Coast Fever will be joining us to give us the low down on round one and how they plan to bounce back this week.
The National Hockey League has come to an end for the Smokefree Diamonds but the Smokefree Thundersticks are still chasing back to back titles. Jayde Taylor will join us from Tasmania to bring us up to date on both teams performances.
Not the Footy Show is moving to a new online home
Listeners to Not the Footy show could always login to Facebook and listen to shows that they missed or listen to a favourite interview. Recent changed to Facebook have meant that MP3 files can no longer be uploaded. Not sure why – perhaps the file sizes and bandwidth required to support these files just became too much for FB?
So, we’re currently trialling imeem which is the #1 social site for sharing sound (and more). We’ll let you know how it goes…

Not the Footy show is onto a winner with several WA athletes and sportsmen and women winning major world and local titles in the past week.
On Not The Footy Show tonight:
- The Wallaroos return victorious from the inaugural Rugby 7′s World Cup in Dubai. We will catch up with winning try scorer and Western Australian, Shelly Matcham.
- The West Coast Fever completed their pre-season tournament in Sydney last weekend. Jasmine Keene will tell us how the team fared.
- In his first season with Perth Glory, Adriano Pellegrino picked up the Most Glorious Player award. He will tell us what this means and his thoughts on next season.
- Kim Mickle has qualified for the World Athletics championships following her A qualifier throw in the javelin at last week’s National Championships. Will this compensate for missing out on the Olympics?
- On the subject of athletics we will catch up with author Len Johnson to discuss his book The Landy Era on the golden period of Australian middle and long distance running.
- Up and coming WA cyclist, Luke Durbridge will join us to discuss not only his start to the year but also the HBF freeway bike hike.
- Following last week’s national kayak championships WAIS coach Ramon Anderson will tell us how his charges fared.
