Volleyball WA hosted their first Country of Origin tournament at Lords on the weekend and it was great to see so many people from different nations and cultures coming together in the name of sport and the spirit in which the games were played was a credit to all those taking part. Thank you to the very kind people from the Philippines, who offered me some of their food!

There were three teams from Brazil, three teams from the Philippines, two from India and Mauritius and one from Italy, Indonesia, Germany, Canada, Southern Sudan, and Australia.

It is hoped that this tournament will grow in future years, but in the meantime, the “Volleywops” from Italy are the Men’s Champions, and “Made in Germany” are the women’s champions both teams going through the tournament unbeaten.

In the Mixed Competition the “Kerala Shooters” from India overcame “The Canucks” from Canada 2-1 in the final. The poor Canucks who had not lost a game ran out of legs when it mattered most.
